Saddledome opens in Calgary
The Olympic Saddledome (now Scotiabank Saddledome) officially opened in Calgary on October 15, 1983, built as the home of the Calgary Flames and the future ice venue for the 1988 Winter Olympics. Its opening lifted a city mired in the early-1980s oil bust.
