How Alberta's market works
Alberta households either sign a competitive contract with a retailer or, by default, pay the regulated rate shown here — the electricity Rate of Last Resort (set through Dec 31, 2026) and the monthly regulated gas rate. Regulated rates are approved by the Alberta Utilities Commission.
Which company serves you by default depends on where you live (your distribution area). Delivery charges, riders and fees come on top of the energy rates shown here — your bill's total unit cost is higher than the energy-only rate.
