   Gretzky fastest to 1,000 points

   Wayne Gretzky became the fastest player in NHL history to reach 1,000 career points, recording the milestone against Los Angeles Kings goaltender Darren Eliot in only his 424th game as Edmonton beat the Kings 7-3 at Northlands Coliseum. The previous record-holder, Guy Lafleur, had needed 720 games.
