On April 24, 1985 the Supreme Court of Canada struck down the federal Lord's Day Act in R. v. Big M Drug Mart, a case that began with Sunday-shopping charges against a Calgary store; it was the first law struck down in its entirety under the Charter's guarantee of freedom of religion.
