Red Deer grade 8 students build motorized cars at RDP tech camp
Students from two Red Deer Public schools spent a day soldering circuits and assembling vehicles as part of a hands-on learning initiative.
Grade 8 students from Normandeau School and Escuela Vista Grande took part in a technology camp at Red Deer Polytechnic called Drive the Circuit. It was the first camp of the year organized by the Central Alberta Collegiate Institute (CACI).
Throughout the day, students assembled motorized cars, working with electrical circuits and soldering tools to complete their builds, according to Red Deer Public Schools.
Renee Rudolph, Careers Engagement Coordinator with the school division, said the activity goes beyond following instructions, with students experimenting and problem-solving to understand how different components work together. She said such hands-on opportunities can help students discover interests they may want to pursue further.
