Six Peace region drag racers head to Sportsman World Finals in Ohio

Competitors from two Peace region tracks are making the long trip south for one of drag racing's biggest amateur events this weekend.

Six auto racers from the Peace region are competing this weekend at the Sportsman World Finals in Norwalk, Ohio, an event running Friday and Saturday that draws bracket racers from across Canada and the United States.

Three competitors represent the North Peace Bracket Racing Association track near Beaverlodge: Kelsey Dufresne in the Box category, Jesse Stevens in No Box, and Emery Breitkreuz in Junior. Three more racers from Northern Lights Raceway in Fort St. John are also taking part, including Shawn Hagen in Sportsman, Mathieu Heinrichs in Junior, and Stacey Commandeur in No Box.

According to Hagen's social media posts, the trip to Ohio and back totals roughly 8,500 kilometres and about 80 hours on the road.
