Lethbridge man charged after fleeing arrest, found hiding in tree

A 34-year-old man wanted on outstanding warrants led Lethbridge police on an hours-long search before being found hiding in a tree at Henderson Lake Golf Course.

Lethbridge Police say the incident began Friday at a home on Mohawk Road, where officers responded to a report that a man known to police and wanted on outstanding warrants had stolen a safe. Occupants of the home told police they believed the man was still inside and had a firearm.

When officers investigated, they found the man had already left and was instead renting a hotel room in the 1000-block of Mayor Magrath Drive. He was located in the hotel lobby, where he resisted arrest, assaulted an officer, and fled on foot.

Following a search lasting several hours, police found the suspect hiding in a tree at Henderson Lake Golf Course. He was arrested without incident and remanded in custody. He faces charges of assaulting an officer and evading arrest, and was scheduled to appear in court Monday.
