Brooks RCMP handle rollover, motorcycle crash and warrant arrest in one day

Three unrelated calls kept Brooks RCMP occupied over the weekend, resulting in two hospitalizations and one arrest.

Brooks RCMP responded to three separate incidents on Saturday, including a semi-truck rollover, a collision involving two motorcycles, and the arrest of a woman on outstanding warrants.

Around 1:49 p.m., a black semi-truck rolled onto its side while turning at the intersection of Highway 884 and Highway 544. The driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital by EMS. The investigation is ongoing.

In a separate matter, police were called to an apartment building around 10:31 a.m. after a report that someone had been staying in a laundry room. The person had left before officers arrived, but belongings identified her as Nyaibol Deng, who was later arrested on outstanding warrants from Brooks and Medicine Hat. Officers found credit cards, identification and documents belonging to others in her possession, and she was charged with failure to comply with a release order and possession of property obtained by crime. She was released with conditions and is due in court Sept. 23.

Also Saturday, a truck and two motorcycles collided at Range Road 141 and Township Road 191 after the truck entered the intersection from a yield sign without seeing the oncoming bikes. Both motorcyclists were taken to hospital, one with minor injuries and the other with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Police said alcohol was not a factor and issued the truck driver a ticket for failing to obey a traffic control device.
