Lethbridge teen, 15, charged after sexual assault on Coalbank Trail

Police say the accused had already been reported for lewd behaviour in the area before the assault occurred.

Lethbridge Police Service has charged a 15-year-old boy with sexual assault and indecent acts following an incident along the Coalbank Trail in the city's Lakeview neighbourhood.

Police say a 41-year-old woman was walking along the trail last Wednesday afternoon when she noticed a young man hiding behind a garbage can, who made a lewd comment as she passed. She told officers he then ran up to her and sexually assaulted her before fleeing on a bike.

Investigators say they had already received earlier calls about a person matching the suspect's description committing lewd acts in the area. On Thursday, police returned to the neighbourhood, located the suspect and arrested him without incident.

The teen, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, faces several charges and is scheduled to appear in court on October 28.
