Free Recovery Day event brings Trooper to Red Deer City Hall Park Sept. 26

Last Door Recovery Society is hosting a free, family-friendly awareness event aimed at reducing stigma around addiction and recovery, with live music culminating in a Trooper performance.

Recovery Day 2026 will run from noon to 5 p.m. on Sept. 26 at Red Deer City Hall Park, presented by Last Door Recovery Society. The free event features live music throughout the afternoon, leading up to a performance by Canadian rock band Trooper around 4 p.m.

Last Door operates the Red Deer Recovery Community north of the city on Highway 2A, a facility funded and opened by the provincial government in late 2022. Last Door took over its operation this past August from Edgewood Health Network. The society has been operating since 1984 and now runs four treatment centres across B.C. and Alberta.

Giuseppe Ganci, community development coordinator at Last Door, said the event aims to reduce the stigma around recovery, not just addiction, by making conversations about it more approachable. Clients from the recovery facility will volunteer at the Red Deer event alongside their families.

Similar Recovery Day events are being held elsewhere in Alberta this month, with Bif Naked and Sloan performing in Edmonton on Sept. 19 and Tom Cochrane performing in Calgary on Sept. 20.
