Rebels sign Swedish defenceman Zeb Lindgren, an NHL draft pick

The Red Deer Rebels have added a New York Rangers prospect to their blue line ahead of the coming WHL season.

The Red Deer Rebels have signed Swedish defenceman Zeb Lindgren to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement. The 19-year-old was selected 24th overall by the Rebels in the first round of the 2026 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft in June.

Lindgren was also picked by the New York Rangers in the fifth round of the 2025 NHL Draft. Originally from Umeå, Sweden, he served as captain of Skellefteå AIK's under-20 team, recording six goals and 13 assists for 19 points in 36 games, and also played in two Swedish Hockey League games.

Rebels owner, president and general manager Brent Sutter said Lindgren was an appealing addition because of his hockey sense, leadership experience and English fluency. Standing six-foot-one and 198 pounds, Lindgren represented Sweden at the 2025 Hlinka Gretzky Cup and the 2025 World Junior A Challenge, winning medals at both events.
